apricot’s closet: may wrap-up.

Firstly… I’m flattered to have been interviewed over at Sophie Mae’s style blog.

Sophie is a gorgeous gem. Not only does she have an amazing style blog — her photographs resemble those of a fashion magazine spread — but she is an accomplished personal stylist/shopper. You must check out her style blog, & the neat little services she offers as a stylist. I know that if I were in need of a personal stylist, I would enlist Sophie without question.

Check out the interview here.

I’m embarrassed to admit that…

  • I cried like a baby while watching Titanic the other night. Even well after the movie was over, I was still weeping like a sappy idiot. It’s the music, I tell you! Just the first few notes of “My Heart Will Go On” creates a lump in my throat. (I am such a girl.)
  • I’m slightly nervous about this blogger meet-up in Las Vegas this weekend. I also keep getting excited at the prospect of seeing Grissom & The Gang… until I remind myself that it’s only a television show, for Heaven’s sake!
  • I just took a walk around my neighborhood in shorts, & I haven’t shaved my legs in a week.
  • When someone left a comment stating that “English is one of the most beautiful languages in the world…” I burst into laughter. English the most beautiful language? Blasphemy! If anyone has ever listened to the sultry dialect of a Frenchman (or an Italian man), I’m sure you’re laughing, as well.
  • I’m not really enjoying this “June Gloom.” The overcast skies are making me lazy, lethargic, & slightly melancholy.
  • I am only eloquent in my writings when it involves some sort of a list.

apricot’s closet: black lace.

blacklace-025

lace tunic & shoes, from Forever21; shorts from Target; tights from 99 cent store; necklaces are my own creations; rubber bracelets from Urban Outfitters.

My beloved black lace dress (& bra) came in the mail just one day after I purchased it online. & boy, was I excited. While I was eagerly trying on the dress, I noticed that it was really, really short. As in “is this a shirt, or a dress?” short.

Turns out it’s a tunic… not a dress.

I showed Jonathan how short is was, wincing in my dismay, & he retorted, “Oh just wear it! I’ve seen girls wearing shorter dresses than that. & anyway, I kind of like it when you dress like a skank.”

Men…

apricot recommends… must-see movies.

Every once in a while, I come across something that thrills me; be it a product, a movie, a music album, or a book. I fall in love with that something so much that I wish to share it with other people. To give them something new to try, & to possibly broaden their horizons.

Today, I bring you a list of seven movies that I think everyone should see; at least once. These are not only some of my most favorite films, but after I viewed them, they completely changed my perspective on life. I love it when movies do this, & I want to share them with you.

The Children’s Hour

I first saw this movie when I was thirteen (give or take), so I couldn’t quite grasp the severity, nor the boldness, of the film. But since then, I have seen this movie several times, & now that I’m able to fully comprehend its happenings, it’s very heartbreaking. (But still an extraordinary film, nonetheless.)

At the risk of not wanting to give away the plot, I will say that just the fact that this black & white film touches on the taboo subject of homosexuality in the early 60s, makes it even more of a must-see. It’s a haunting movie, with a story that will leave you on the edge of your seat. & the young actresses in the film are just superb.

It stars Audrey Hepburn, Shirley MacLaine, & James Garner.

Wicker Park

This movie is beautiful & thrilling, with twist & turns that you will never see coming. It’s one of my favorite films & the soundtrack is just as exquisite.

This film is all about love, obsession, & what happens to people when those two things completely take over your life. The cinematography is very prominent, as are the characters of the story. It’s one of those films that continues to shock & surprise you; perhaps even frustrate you a little bit. But it’s gorgeously done.

The way the story is intertwined is perfect.

It stars Josh Hartnett, Diane Kruger, & Rose Byrn.

apricot’s closet: new digs.

bathing-suit-022

black fedora & chained necklace from H&M; shorts & sandals from Ross; bag from Forever21; jewelry is miscellaneous.

If you see me somewhere with a hat on my head, there’s a good chance that I only wore it out of laziness. (Summer=laziness, if you didn’t know.) Seriously, hats are my new best friend. & I am so relieved that I found a black version of the grey hat I hunted down with pure dedication.

& this purse it probably the coolest purse I’ve ever owned. I waited for a whole month before deciding that I deserved to reward myself with it. Jonathan was the one that ultimately convinced me into getting it as he exclaimed, wide-eyed “Oh my god, Babe! That purse is the most awesomest purse I’ve ever seen! If I could carry a purse, that would be it!!! Seriously. You better get it, babe… or else!”

He didn’t have to tell me twice.

Also, I changed the layout around here; what do you think of it? I had the cherry blossoms for so long — ever since I started this blog over a year ago — & while they were beautiful, I felt like I’d outgrown them. For now, the layout will be kept simple until I can figure out just what I want to do with it.

apricot’s closet: lazy outfit, & 5 things.

pocket-shirt-002

shirt from Forever21; shorts from Ross; sandals from Cali; rubber bracelets from Urban Outfitters; quartz necklace from my shop (BUY).

I am…

  • feeling very uninspired in the clothing department; mainly because it’s so bloody hot out. How could I possibly care about dressing foxy, when all I can think about is the sweat dripping between my cleavage?
  • really loving my hair right now. Only a few more inches until I reach my goal!
  • in the process of making some new jewelry for the shop. The pieces will be much bolder this time around, & very intriguing.
  • ecstatic that I have 112 subscribers!!!
  • even more ecstatic about going to the Vegas Blogger meet-up in June!

thankyou-evyan2

I want to say thank you to everyone who contributed in the launching of ask apricot. Your re-tweets, your letters, & blog posts helped tremendously to make my launch very, very successful. From the bottom of my heart: thank you. It’s times like these when you know who your true [blog] friends are, & I appreciate every single one of you.

To those who entered in the giveaway: Your letters were so amazing & personal. A few times, I felt like I was trespassing because they were so personal. & even though each letter was from a different background, I noticed that everyone’s approach was very similar. Rather than get on your younger case by saying, “Why did you make this mistake? You need to get it together!”, all of your letters were gentle, nurturing, & very heartfelt. I realized that while we all do a bit of bashing against ourselves, it’s very obvious that we really DO care about & love ourselves.

Needless to say, it was very refreshing to read such positive & loving letters. So thank you very much for being so open & for sharing your feelings. Every single letter was a delight to read.

& now… to announce the winners!
