apricot’s closet: new garb & broken promises.

A few months ago, Lover caught glimpse of my bulging, gluttonous closet & told me that he thinks I might have a slight problem; he may have even hinted an addiction. Of course, I objected to this & told him that I could refrain from buying anything until my birthday (which is in September) & that I could do it willingly, at that! He accepted my challenge & so it began. Everything that included clothes & beautification would be illegal: shoes, panties, shirts & shorts, jewelry, makeup. I was doing quite well until this past weekend.

Not only did I purchase some things from Trendy Blanks, but I went on a mini shopping rampage. It couldn’t have been helped; Lover’s family came out from Utah, & we took them to the shops around Old Town. How could we not get a little something? Surprisingly, it wasn’t me that needed to be held back from buying, but Lover. He was pulling things off the rack exclaiming, “Ohh, babe; what about this? Okay… this one, what about this one? Honey! This color would look so nice on you! Hold it up to you; what do you think? Okay, we’re getting it!”

He persuaded me to buy just 3 things: a shirt, a vest that Lover picked out, & a bag.

Parisian shirt & yellow vest, from Forever21; jeans, from Gossip; shoes, from Ross; bag, from H&M.

By the time the shopping was done, having spent more than several hours of indulgence in crowded stores, Lover was understandably exhausted, while I was going into a clothes/shopping coma. It was this weekend that I truly realized how much I loathe shopping. In fact, I’m fine with never shopping again; unless it’s online shopping, of course.

I also realized that I am pretty firm on my likes & dislikes when it comes to my personal style. While in Forever21, Lover was selecting items for me, but I declined practically every suggestion. He would pick out the brightest, most seemingly obnoxious colors; forest greens, cherry reds, neon blues & eggplant purples. It’s not that I don’t like these colors, I just prefer them to be more subtly done & not so in your face.

My poor, little Fashion Conscious husband in training. He seemed so crestfallen at my rejections. I would insist that it’s not that I don’t like what he’s picking out because he is picking it; I’m just not one for loud & dramatic colors. I prefer monochromes, nudes & neutrals; natural & earthy colors. Apparently, Lover would rather see me in sporadic prints & vivacious hues because they go against my skin tone so beautifully. I can’t disagree with that, but then again, I can’t agree enough to wear them. The vest is exempt because it’s not so terribly yellow that I feel like a walking street sign.

Bless my husband’s heart for trying to help.

I love the shirt- but I REALLY love the shoes.

*laugh* That’s not fair if he was coercing you into buying new clothes! Regardless, you look adorable as always! Boys are so funny when they try to pick out our clothes… usually I’ll hold something up and K will either nod vehemently or squinch up his face :)

    I LOVE that Paris shirt!

Well maybe you can wear them just for him? I mean you don’t have to make it exclusively about your preferences right? I know my father suffered through quite a bit with my mothers suggestions, but hey, it’s harmless.

Nice outfit by the way. Great job.

@ sandy: thank you, deary. :] I got them at Ross! (I’ve been dying to say that lately, for some strange reason.)

@ Traci Anne: same with jonathan! I think what’s worse is that if I hold something up to him & ask him if he likes it, & he doesn’t make any faces or sounds… then I KNOW he really, really hates it.

@ That Saddity Chic: thanks, love. :]

@ Sean C: you know, I could… but he would have to meet me halfway, seeing as I pick out things for him that he thumbs his nose up to. & I don’t think he would go for that. ;] & thank you!

You look great. And you did very well on your no-shopping ban for so long! My sisters always like to go shopping with me and ask if I like things they pick out. I feel so bad because at the end of the day we just have different tastes, but sometimes they feel that I as the perceived family “fashion expert” have a more valid opinion on clothes than them…

You look so so good in skinny jeans.

You look so gorgeous, I especially love the jeans. They fit you perfectly. I think I’m a little obsessed with your hair, seriously. Everytime I see it I wish it was mine. :)

So he can’t hold it against you that you didn’t keep your promise. Ha. What fun!

You’ve inspired me to cut my hair.
You look amazing in those clothes your husband pushed you to buy.
    Shout out to lover!

@ The Clothes Horse: it’s the same with me; my family will call me at all hours of day, asking my advice about their shopping sprees. My mother especially will call me about beauty items & foundations shades. It’s flattering, but sometimes puts me in a difficult spot.

@ rumi: thanks, love! These are the skinniest jeans I own, & I am always a bit self conscious about them. They show off my chicken legs perfectly…

@ kelly: Aw, thanks. :] I think you should consider cutting your hair! I think it would look great on you. Even if you didn’t get a pixie, but a bob… then again, I know how it is when you’ve grown your hair out for so long. :] But I’m happy to inspire you!

@ Paris Tart: thanks! & I took a gander at your blog. I added you to my bookmarks. =]

    @ ashley: that’s right! =] He’s just as bad as I am.

@ ANGST: Oh have I? If you mean that, I’d love to see pictures! Thanks for stopping in. ;]

I love this outfit - I swear you look like Halle Berry in these pictures!

I love your blog btw, I’ve added you to my blog roll. Hope you don’t mind!

wow, i adore your new vest! that color looks great on you (and would be difficult for me to pull off, because i think i would look paler in it than i already am :) no need for more “screaming” colors in your closet, i like what you wear a lot.
about long dresses: they aren’t that warm in summer, actually it’s quite a nice feeling when you always have something swinging around your legs :) but then again, who am i to judge the l.a. summer, our weather here is really bad this year.

i just came here after a while because i was too busy to blogroll and wanted to tell you that i enjoyed reading everything you put up. and i’ve been thinking about this, too. i feel like we are quite different personalities but very similar in certain areas. i guess, we would get along quite great in “real life”.

i have to hand it to the hubby for sticking his neck out there and trying.

I also had a “duh” moment when pondering what made the shirt Parisian: the material? the print? the cut? oh wait. the word “Paris.” ah.

[...] did give me store credit; a grand total of $37 & some useless change. I bought a purse (as seen here) with that store credit, having more than twenty dollars left [...]
