apricot’s closet: hippie dress.
(to see my hippie-style wedding dress, click here.)
hippie frock, from long ago; undershirt (so that I don’t flash anyone accidentally, because it’s really sheer) & wayfarers, from Target; shorts & sandals, from Ross; jewelry, from forever21.
My stimulus check (also known as “free money”) came yesterday. I squealed for joy because it’s about time! Lover got his months ago, for Heaven’s sake.
Naturally, I went shopping. I needed to buy new shorts, since my overnight weight spurt made me grow out of all the 8th-grade-old pairs I owned. I went to Ross & to my disdain, none of the shorts I tried on fitted the way I wanted them to. Apparently, “booty shorts” must be in, because every pair I put on showed more of my goodies than I wanted to — which is a lot to say, being that I don’t have much junk in the trunk to begin with. They were so terribly short & I was so mad! In the dressing room I would whisper “Are you kidding me? Another one? Are they all like this?!” at the sight of yet another pair of the scandalous looking shorts. I thought, Gee, is it just me & my string bean legs, or have shorts become a lot shorter lately?
When I told Lover about this, he was almost appalled that I didn’t buy the daisy dukes; saying that he would have loved the idea & that my booty would have looked “soooo good in them.” (Sigh; men.) I ended up sadly settling on a pair of dark wash shorts & the rolled up shorts shown above.
I wish I had the patience & know-how to sew my own clothes.

i like the shorts you wear in the pictures! and i could never, ever wear those “booty shorts”, my butt is way too prominent to do that :) i rather stick to skirts ;) btw, your dress is really cute. hope summer finds its way back here so i can wear dresses like that again…

despite not having to find your perfect shorts, you still look awesome in those pair of shorts you have, also a lovely top with such an adorable necklace!

I don’t like to wear shorts anymore. I’m short, but I’ve got some meat on my upper legs and junk in the trunk; They just don’t fit comfortably on me because they’re not made for a figure like mine. It reeeeally sucks that it’s like “LOSE WEIGHT” or “REFUSE TO WEAR SHORTS” Ugh.
Very cute outfit. I love the top. :)

I love those rolled up shorts - and lovely dress too, nice work. I know what you mean about sewing, I would LOVE to be able to whip up a little number whenever I wanted. A friend of mine MADE her wedding dress, and it was beautiful. So jealous! x M

@ kate: thanks girl! With me being as tall as I am, booty shorts wouldn’t work for me. & you’ve given me hope to find some better looking shorts. Yours are always so adorable. :]
@ Anna: thank you! I’ll trade you weather… ;]
@ Angie: :] thank you!
@ moscoto: My sister is the same way, but she really has nothing to complain about. She doesn’t like wearing shorts because her legs are too skinny. I guess the grass is always greener… ;/
@ Sharon rose: thank you, love. :]
@ Marianne: She MADE her wedding dress?! Unbelievable. If you have pictures of that by chance, I’d love to see it. I am so jealous!
@ Trace: me too! Although, the heat in LA makes bermuda shorts unforgiving. ;/
@ ashley: Aw, well thank you. :]
@ the soul sista: it definitely is. I love the flowy tops & dresses & the “I don’t give a damn” demeanor.

@ She: thank you very much! For the compliments & for stopping in. :]
@ danz: thank you. :] The bow looks a little crooked. It looked much better when it was first bought, but now it’s droopy.
@ kyutie: Thanks! I get my inspiration from everywhere; it could be art or music, it could be magazines or classic movies. I get it everywhere. :]
@ Ash1314: Ooo, I’ll have to check it out. :]
@ geri: hey, thank you for the tip! I will definitely take a look. I’ve always wanted to go to LACMA but never think about it until after. =]

I’m feeling you on the shorts thing. I have one pair that’s about 4 years old. Every time I go into a Ross, Target, or really, any other clothing store, the shorts are just waaaaay to short. And I do have a but, which makes them even shorter. And so, I am found in pants 90% of the time, and dresses when it’s too hot for pants.
